Stormwater Sleuthing Back in Season!

Rainy season is here and so is Detective Liguori! With steady rain, David was quick to visit a recent BAPC installation in San Carlos and the evidence is undeniable. The newly installed pervious drive aisles infiltrate water just as quickly as it pours down. No puddles - no mess. The verdict: “When it rains, it drains!”

A stark contrast to the growing puddle along the street, and a quick reminder that Bay Area Pervious Concrete has a pervious solution for you.

BAPC Featured in Construction Magazine!

We made it on the news!

ForConstructionPros.com just published a recent concrete article detailing the evolution of pervious concrete. With new and improved specifications, an ACI committee and NRMCA certification designed specifically for pervious concrete, it’s fair to say many more opportunities await pervious concrete as urban development continues to skyrocket. From start to finish, the article goes in length to discuss the installation process AND features our very own experienced crew in our iconic orange shirts! Orange and green have never been this fashionable!

If you’re curious to learn more about pervious concrete, BAPC’s David Liguori is passionate about educating professionals when it comes to all things pervious. Contact us today!

Pervious Concrete Stands the Test of Time

Bay Area Pervious Concrete owner and technical guru, David Liguori, took a trip to Walnut Creek to put our product to the test for a three year review, and what he found was a parking lot in near mint condition. Installed in 2020, the Skilled Nursey Facility features nearly 19,000 square feet of pervious concrete - curb to curb.

With no asphalt draining onto the pavement, the asphalt fines and associated sediment that typically cause clogging in hybrid designs (mixing asphalt and pervious concrete) are non-existent. As the video shows, a well-designed system and properly installed pervious pavement offers high level performance with little or no maintenance.

The pavement passed with flying colors when it came to infiltration testing with water disappearing instantly. But the most important take-away isn’t the fact that our product can easily meet stormwater requirements without taking up more space than needed, or the fact that our product can infiltrate stormwater without the need of expensive infrastructure, or our variety of cost-effective options. What is most important is a strong system starts with strong project design that results in effectiveness and longevity. An area that David Liguori is particularly passionate about.

Do you have an upcoming project, but you’re unsure how to create a highly effective and long lasting system? What are you waiting for? David is only a call away for design consultation, industry expertise, and ease of mind.

San Francisco Data is in, Pervious Concrete Reigns Supreme

We have some great news to share backed by data-driven research!

Some of you may recall our work along Holloway Street back in 2017. If not, can you read about it here. The San Francisco Public Utilities Commission (SFPUC) hired us to install parking lanes along eight blocks of Holloway Street as part of a city-wide effort showcasing the effectiveness of green infrastructure and stormwater management in the Ingleside neighborhood.

Holloway Green Streets Project - north side

After completion, the area was carefully monitored between 2017-2019. Analyzing two years’ worth of data, the pervious concrete along with the rain gardens show an impressive overall reduction in stormwater volume of 77%! With results like this, it is no surprise the adaption of pervious concrete stormwater pavement systems into new green infrastructure design continues to grow at a rapid pace.

As SFPUC’s Green Infrastructure Planning Specialist, Mike Adamow said, “After four years of service, the pervious concrete installed on the SFPUC’s Holloway Green Street project has met or exceeded our expectations and is providing valuable lessons learned that we will use to inform the design of future projects. The combination of a well-trained and experienced contractor, a proven mix design, close contractor coordination with the concrete supplier during batching and delivery, along with proper protection after installation has resulted in an asset that should serve the SFPUC ratepayers well for years to come. As this and other types of permeable pavement installations age, it is becoming clear that the advantages of pervious concrete position this material to be the preferred permeable pavement type for future SFPUC projects.

Detective Liguori is Back!

The Bay Area just had it’s first big storm of the year - foretelling of a very rainy winter season ahead! While most people took shelter, David Liguori hit the road in search of the latest scoop when it comes to pervious concrete outperforming conventional concrete and asphalt surfaces.

Where did his stormwater sleuthing lead him to this time? To a very water-bogged Daly City. Luckily for him, he found dry land thanks to a pervious parking lot that BAPC installed a few months ago. How did it fair in such torrential rain? Perfectly! Just take a look for yourself.

Commercial Lot Gets a Pervious Makeover

Commercial Lot Gets a Pervious Makeover

Running out of room at their current location, the South San Francisco Scavenger Company recently purchased a large property to store their debris boxes and garbage bins. The 66,000 square foot yard, however, was a combination of dirt and gravel, and not at all suitable for their needs. The initial plan was to pave the yard with asphalt, until the City informed them they could not do anything that would increase the quantity of stormwater-runoff from the property.

New Detail Alert – Read All About It!

Bay Area Pervious Concrete was recently asked to install our decorative exposed aggregate pervious pavement in the parking areas of a high-end residential project. The driveway itself was a beautiful 2’ x 2’ Italian stone and was designed to be permeable. To achieve this, the landscape contractor used a Class II permeable base and then mortared directly on the base to set the stones. The bed of mortar was carefully placed so as not to fill the spaces between the stone, creating a passageway for surface water to pass through to the base rock.

One of These Things (Is Not Like the Other)

One of These Things (Is Not Like the Other)

“One of these things is not like the other,” Ernie from Sesame Street said it best.  For those that claim impervious surfaces, such as asphalt and concrete, and pervious surfaces are synonymous, that is not true.  Bay Area Pervious Concrete’s David Liguori went out on the field this week to report on some real-time comparisons between these two surfaces during our most recent storm, and the evidence is striking.
