Creating a Curvaceous Polished Pervious Concrete Patio

What do you do when you love to entertain in your backyard, but every time it rains your backyard gets flooded with puddles? That was the problem one of our clients was trying to solve when they discovered pervious concrete. The only problem was that many of the examples they saw online were mostly rectangular, solid color, installations - something that would not provide a unique show-piece for their backyard. They wanted something that was a talking point for their guests, a patio that stood out from the rest. Luckily, they contacted Bay Area Pervious Concrete. Working with them we developed this custom designed curvaceous patio.

The patio was designed to flow around the backyard, to provide enough room for entertaining, while still leaving room for the owner's gardening projects. Best of all, the pervious concrete put an end to the flooding and puddling issues that sometimes put a damper their party plans.

To create the visual interest that the owner desired colored borders were tooled in by our NRMCA Certified Installers and Technicians. A Polished Pervious finish was also applied to the large center section, while the colored border was left in the Classic Pervious Concrete finish. The terra cotta color was chosen for the border to compliment existing walkways along the sides of the house. We achieved this unique look using only one concrete pour, rather than the standard two pours that most borders tend to require. This allowed us to pass along some savings, in time and money, to the owners, while still achieving a hand-crafted result.

Commodore Park in San Jose is now ready for a Frisbee!

San Jose’s newest park features a colored pervious concrete path going around the park! And it is finally open! Santa Clara Valley Urban Runoff Pollution Prevention Program honored the City of San José with an award for Commodore Park’s Site Design and Low Impact Development for Storm Water Pollution. The award recognizes the park's low-impact development features that are helping to protect water quality by filtering stormwater through plants and soil, while allowing stormwater to infiltrate into the ground to help replenish groundwater.

Time to load up the family, grab the frisbee and explore this great new space. It has children’s playground equipment, adult’s exercise equipment, picnic areas and a grassy expanse, all accessed by ADA friendly pervious concrete. It is a lovely space to spend the day.

If you head out there, please send us photos of you enjoying the park! We will post them here! :)

Polished Fine Pervious Installed in Los Altos Hills!

Polished Fine Pervious Installed in Los Altos Hills!

A new residence has installed a pervious concrete driveway - but what is special is the size of the aggregate! It is a 1/8 inch aggregate that polishes up beautifully! You can see this incredibly smooth and polished look starting at the gates and sweeping up to the front of the house. Pervious concrete is also featured around the parking pad in the back and there is a wonderful view of the valley below. All the photos in the gallery below!

RC Ready Mix - Sample Slab with Decorative Pervious

We teamed up with RC Ready Mix to do a sample pour over in their yard, with their aggregate. They wanted to see how it went down, and we wanted to see how our mix design would work with their rocks.  Not only did the installation turn out REALLY WELL, but Rob Estrada was able to really show us all a few MORE possibilities for decorative pervious concrete!

The first question is always ‘how well does it drain?’ Check out the video below to watch the front end loader dump a bucketful of water on the slab!

We agree with the driver, thumbs up! A few days later, Rob went over there to try some designs to see how they could look.  We are well known for our Polished Pervious™, which you can see below, next to the Classic Pervious Concrete.

To get a closer look at the great texture, we took a close up. You can see the Polished Pervious Concrete ™, and then set into the pervious a pattern that was added well after the plastic was pulled up.

And here is where Rob really let loose!  As Rob added these layers of color and texture to the Pervious Concrete, you can see the window that RC Ready Mix installed when they were framing. That allows one to see the water going through the layers of the Pervious Concrete System.

Here is most of the slab - you can see the suns and the moon and the gorgeous colors that were used!

If you would like to see this in person, it will only be in the yard for a limited time. Contact us for more information.
